ANTIQUE cIRCA1850 ANGLO INDIAN *FAUX* IVORY BONE & EBONY INLAID SHISHAM WOODEN BOX HOSHIARPUR INDIA
antique circa 1850 Anglo-Indian Hoshiarpur India small shisham wood box, is of rectangular form with lift off domed lid. It is hand inlaid with *faux* ivory bone and ebony with lotus flower foliate design and has applied *faux* ivory bone edging held with wooden pegs.
This beautiful little box has a very 18th century look but is likely to date from the mid 19th century, this type of work started to be exported about 1850 but of course the piece could be slightly earlier. It is in good condition, the inlay all looks original, there are a couple of minor good quality repairs to the edging and some minor imperfections from hand worked manufacture and type of materials (please see photos).
