Antique C1900-20s Indian India Fine Carved Faux Ivory Bone Elephant Figurine:
ANTIQUE c1900-20s INDIAN INDIA FINE CARVED FAUX IVORY BONE ELEPHANT FIGURINE Description
This antique circa 1900-20's Indian India *faux* ivory bone elephant figurine, is very finely hand carved from a solid block of beautiful elegant form, with extraordinary attention to details like every fold and tiny crease of the elephants hide, delightful eyes, ears, trunk and tail, every bit the equal of good antique Chinese and Japanese examples. It is mounted on a carved shaped solid cattle horn plinth base. This fabulous top quality little piece is apparently unmarked.
It is in very good condition with no chips, damage or repair. It has a mostly light colour to the front and the more typical older colour to the back, showing the lovely natural *faux* ivory grain patterns. There is an old hairline flaw in the top back of the elephant which are typical of larger chunks of *faux* ivory. The solid cattle horn base has ageing to the colour and fine fissured surface pattern, all conducive with its age (please see photos).
Height 11.8cm, 4.5/8", length of base 11.5cm, 4.17/32", unpacked weight 355 grams.
