Antique/rare 19th Century, Ornate, Occult "mortar & Pestle" - Anton Lavey For Sale
You are viewing a ANTIQUE/RARE 19th Century, Ornate, Occult "Mortar & Pestle" that was found in a San Francisco Estate Sale in the Late 1990's with several other Altar Itemsand owned by an original member of, "The Church of Satan", (see details below). I found these items in a cardboard box labeled, "COS Altar" along with some other very unusual items that I have listed. I would consider thismortar and pestleto be ingood condition and I will describethem and give you as many details as I canto thebest of my ability: Themortaritself is made of bronze and measures approximately 4"tall and3 1/2"in diameter at it's widest point. There are two demon-likefaces on each side and it is ornately designed. The pestle is also made of bronze and is approximately 5 3/4" in length. I took it to an antique dealer and they told me that it was probably made in the early 19th century in Europe. Both the mortar and pestle have a lot of patina from age. I'm sure they can both be cleaned up but I will leave that up to the buyer. Unfortunately, this and the other "Anton LaVey-Church of Satan" collectibles I have listed and sold are the last I have available until I goexploring through my storage again, but I did find many more great occult collectibles thatI will be listing soon, so keep checking back! This hard-to-find item would makea fine piece for your eclectic collection!!!
This raremortar and pestle were found at an estate sale in San Francisco about sixteen years ago along with many other genuine occult items. Please look at my response to see some of the other rare and genuine Occult collectibles that came from this estate, including an original "Church of Satan" membership card. Apparently, many of the items I found were from an original member of Anton Szandor Lavey's, "Church of Satan". The house that these items came from was located at 156 12th Ave in San Francisco, (only a few blocks from the original"Black House"),and apparently the house, (which is no longer there), was owned by a doctor since the early 1900's and held many occult items that I am listing. The doctor was a German immigrant whose family originally settled in the Pennsylvania Dutch area and who eventually moved to San Francisco to study medicine. I'm still unsure who actually collected and owned these items, since the doctor supposedly had many residents residing in his house, because he rented out the property. At least, that is what the family told me when I purchased them. Could be that they just didn't want to sour the good doctors' name after his passing. The items range from the mid-1800's to the mid-1990's. Any questions or concerns please contact me.
