This is an antique/vintage matched pair of Santas on bases. They were made in Japan, but do not have a Japan stamp on the bottoms of the bases. For those of you who have the Antique Santa Claus Collectiblesbook by David Longest, this Santa appears at the bottom of page 80. He lists these as being in the 1920s - 1930s time period. I think that this pair was originally bought together and has stayed together for all these years. While there are slight differences in each, as each one was hand assembled, everything about them is exact, including coloring and wear. In picture 6, you can see on the bottom of the bases the "19". That is the original price of 19 cents each! As far as wear goes, there is very little. In picture 8, I show a small area of discoloration on the white chenille trim at the bottom of the coat. This is on the Santa that is on the right side in the pictures. In picture 10, you see a tiny discolored spot on the white chenille trim around the cap of the same Santa. Picture 9 shows what I think is a bit of glitter on the white chenille trim of the cap on the other Santa. And, that is it. They are in such excellent condition. They measure 6.25" in height, and 2" in diameter at the base. The Santas are 2" in width through the arms, and 1.75" in depth. They have composition faces, but it doesn't feel like clay. Their faces are very sweet (pictures 9 & 10). They have white cotton beards, and red wool jackets and caps trimmed in white chenille. They have a shiny black fabric belt and a large silver foil star as the buckle. Their pants are dark blue velveteen (I think). Their feet are black pipe cleaners. They each carry a bottle brush "tree" in their right hand. The bases are cardboard painted white, and glistened with mica flakes. They are wonderful.
