Anton Michelsen Silver Brooch Danish 925 Hallmarked 1963 Famous Modernist Design For Sale
Danish Sterling Silver Brooch / Pin by Anton MichelsenA very interesting and unusual piece of modernist jewellery made by the much sought after Danish silversmith Anton Michelsen.The foliate design has an irregular, almost random look typical of 1960's modernist European jewellery, this particular design seems to be very rare, I can't find another one like it on and only one or two elsewhere on the internet.British (London) Assay Office Hallmarks confirm the date as 1964 (date letter h) .... Anton Michelsen (founded 1841) was official "Court Goldsmith and Maker of Orders" to the Danish Royal Family. The company was eventually merged with Georg Jensen. .... In addition to the Hallmarks the piece is marked on the back with the Anton Michelsen triangular makers mark AM under a crown and STERLING DENMARK in a rectangle... also there is a word stamped which looks like rouge but I have no idea what that means. (Any information on this or any more about the brooch would be most welcome.)
The brooch is in fantastic condition: the pin, hinge and roller safety clasp are all in perfect working order. It has developed a mild patina and some tarnish, which could easily be removed should one so wish. The brooch measures about 66mm x 50mm. weight 15.5gA very wearable, large lapel brooch or an adition to a collection of modern jewellery or Danish designers.
