APOLLO 16mm Sound Projector

Next to Ampro, this is among the foremost motion picture projectors in the Art Deco mode of the 1930s. The audio was playable through an ordinary radio. That\'s one of its unique qualities.

Not too many of these ancient exhibitioniques turn up on the net or anywhere else for that matter.

Its surface veneer or whatever it is officially called is peeling . . . and has been after being in storage for decades. Redoing the surface is one of the challenges in restoring this projector even if it\'s just for display.

Is internal restoration possible?: Well, possibly . . . depending on the expertise of someone who has been long at it . . . and while most of the old crew have tinkered their last tonk, there are still a few who have a fondness for and would take the time to try. In any case, its electrical workings need to be investigated and restored if possible.

I personally don\'t have the know-how and anything electrical - like rewiring - is out of my league. I\'m also the most impatient person I know.

It\'s outer condition (aside from surface peeling): The lens seems OK; the chrome parts where the film travels to and from the gate, seem OK . . . including the sound roller . . . needs cleaning, natch. The film gate (behind the lens looks like it needs a good cleaning . . . as does the projector as a whole given the loose peeling specs and cobwebs.

Most, if not all, wire belts are present but should be replaced; ditto whatever else mechanically is necessary.

About my pictures: Poor lighting compromised rendering the surface colour accurately. It is, on the whole, a consistent medium gray as is evident in at least part of one of the pix. The word APOLLO on the lamp house is a raised embossed font.

Whether or not it is possible to fully restore as a working projector or simply to display, it is certainly worth it. Save for the luxury of time, I\'d give it a go.

Offered \'as is\' for the enterprising creative tinker.

NoteThis is a local pick-up; but I can arrange for UPS to pack and ship the projector at Buyer\'s Expense. It weighs too much for me to package myself. UPS estimated cost to pack and ship this projector is probably in the fifty dollar-plus neighbourhood. But please contact me in advance for particulars and exact UPS quote. Include your zip code. Thanks.
