What sets your "Omega Armor" a step ahead of the competition?
Our
Omega Armor is FAR superior to any regular AR500 armor or armor made in
a "flash". The difference is in the proprietary "cooling" process of
the armor. Picture a "cherried" piece of molten metal. When you pour
water on it, the water "dances" across the surface of the steel. The
"dancing" can cause inconsistent hardness levels throughout the steel.
The method in which our metal is milled incorporates a proprietary
cooling process during the "quench". The heating of the armor is not
the important part....it's the cooling. This ensures our armor really
is the MOST CONSISTENT AR500 around!
What applications has "Omega Armor" been used on?
Omega
Armor has been used in numerous applications for a variety of different
uses. Omega Armor has been used in armored vehicle applications
(military and municipalities), security shields (i.e. bullet-resistant
boxes), and a variety of different applications which require
life-saving armor protection.
Does The Target Man, LLC offer AR600 or AR650 armor?
No!
Too hard of a metal (530 BHN+) is actually bad! When you have metal
that is too hard, it can actually "shatter" upon impact....just like a
piece of glass! Hard to believe, but this is absolutely true! Our
AR500 Omega Armor has out performed many 600 BHN+ samples we have
tested during our qualitative research due to the integrity of the Omega
Armor. While maintain the chemical and physical properties of AR500
specifications, Omega Armor continues to amaze metallurgist by it's
performance. Again, this is NOT regular AR500!
Do you powder coat your armor?
Absolutely
not! We work closely with a team of degreed metallurgist who have
strongly advised us to NOT powder coat our plates. We do not want to
expose our armor to additional heat treatment, which could jeopardize
the integrity of the AR rating. Each baked plate can react differently
to additional heat treatments. Therefore, we will not jeopardize the
integrity of potentially life-saving trauma plates.
Tell us about your certification process?
When
AR500 is milled, it is vulnerable due to inconsistencies in the cooling
process. Master sheets, also known as "heats" are manufactured, and
then cut down in to smaller sheets (generally 4 ft. x 8 ft) for handling
purposes. Each and every heat of our AR500 Omega Armor has test
samples sent for laboratory analysis in two different stages. The first
stage measures the Brinnell Hardness (BHN) and the second stage
determines NIJ compliance. Once a sheet is verified to meet AR500 BHN
levels (we will NEVER buy low hardness steel), samples are then sent to a
ballistic laboratory to ensure the "heat" meets the standards for
ballistic resistance under NIJ Level III. Each and every steel order we
place includes certificates of their RECENT ballistic testing. As
previously stated, it's important to remember we do not test just one
sample and call our armor "good". A lot of time and money is spent on
this armor to ensure each and every batch we order meets and exceeds
hardness levels and Level III standards.

As
listed above, the proprietary cooling process of the AR500 Omega Armor
really makes our AR500 "The Best AR500 Around"! This is not armor made
in some warehouse. Our armor has strict milling policies in place,
combined with consistent QA procedures and certification processes.
This is why we can positively say we really do have the best AR500 in
the industry!

We
have sold thousands of sets of our armor throughout the United States.
Some examples of our customers included: virtually all branches of the
US military, contractors in Afghanistan and Iraq, private security

What rounds has The Target Man, LLC tested their armor against?
Though
we only officially "rate" our armor to meet NIJ Level III, we have
tested our armor against a variety of different threats. We have test
samples with literally hundreds of impacts without reaching fatigue!
NIJ0101.06 calls for 6 equally spaced impacts from 7.62 NATO from 50
feet. This is easily achievable with our armor! We have tested our
armor against .307/7.62, 5.56/.223 (55 and 62gr) M193 ball, M2 Ball
30-06, and numerous other threats! Again, though we test to greater
threats, it is only important to remember we only rate our armor to
Level III standards!
What type of finish does The Target Man, LLC provide with their standard Omega Armor?
This
specific plate set comes in the form of raw steel. We do this to
provide our customers with the option to apply fragmentation mitigation
to their plates. Plates that come painted or powder coated will have to
be stripped clean before applying a protective coating. Our steel
comes to you shot blasted and ready for fragmentation protection or
paint application. If you're looking for plate which are already coated
with fragmentation mitigation, please check our other listings.
Does The Target Man, LLC sell AR500 Omega Armor with proven fragmentation mitigation?
YES!
We currently offer a "Rhino" coated protective coating with our
proprietary primer. This protective coating has PROVEN time and time
again to catch/contain bullet fragmentation upon impact. Please check
our other items for these listings as this item doe NOT come coated!
What is the weight of your armor?
Each raw steel front/back chest plate weighs in right around 7.4 lbs. If you are purchasing a listing with side please (read description to determine if your specific listing includes side plates)
, each 6" x 6" side plate weighs about 2.4 lbs and each 6" x 8" side
plate weighs right around 2.6 lbs. Keep in mind these are very close
approximate weights. The plates are worth their weight in gold!Why AR500 versus composite or ceramic plates?While
we will state ceramics and some composites could be slightly lighter
(usually VERY comparable in weight to our AR500 Omega Armor), steel
armor definitely has it's benefits. First, there is no shelf life!
Most ceramics/composites come with a shelf life. Second, handling is
not an issue with our AR500 Omega Armor. You can store them in your
trunk, closet, "go bag".....where ever you want! You can throw them,
toss them, step on them, etc. and the integrity of the plate has not
been compromised! You cannot say the same for composites or ceramics!What is the lead time for shipping out orders?All uncoated AR500 Omega Armor trauma plates will ship within 5 business days of purchase, unless otherwise stated at the very top of this listing.
Though we usually try to ship the same or following business day after
purchase, it can take up to 5 days for your item to actually ship
considering there is a LOT that goes in to production of this armor!
Orders ship via USPS Priority Mail, which means you should have these
plates in possession between 2-3 days after shipment. Keep in mind this
is what USPS advertises. Delays do happen and we cannot control
transit after the product has been shipped. If a delay occurs, we'll do
everything and anything we can to follow up with your order.
