We get asked all the time if we can sell AR600 or AR650. The answer is NO! We communicate closely with a team of DEGREED METALLURGIST and have found out some very important information. When you get steel that is "too hard" (such as AR600 or AR650), it can actually "shatter" due to the vibration of a bullet's impact.....just like a piece of glass! Our AR500 Omega Armor performs comparably to AR600 or AR650 due to the method in which it is created. When "generic" AR500 is milled, it is treated with a quench and temper process to achieve Brinnell Hardness (BHN). Picture a "cherried" piece of steel after it has been heated...... When water is applied to the steel's surface for cooling, it will "dance" across the surface as it's cooled. This "dancing" creates inconsistencies in the hardness of the metal as it's being cooled. The proprietary process in which our AR is treated ensures the most consistant quench and temper in the industry. In fact, our AR500, with a Brinnell hardness of just 500+, has out-performed some of the AR650 we have tested to fatigue. These plates are priced extremely competitively. Remember, these plates will be shipped as raw steel. They are going to need to be cleaned before you can paint them. Steel from the mill often comes with paint pen marks, which may still be present on the piece when you receive it. I have gone over everything with an angle grinder and wire cup wheel, but that does not make it perfectly clean. I recommend a light sanding before applying paint to remove any dirt or pen marks. I have already lightly gone over the corners with a sanding disk to remove any of the sharp edges. This kit requires very little work, but is very well worth it for the price. Thanks.
