Armorial Lion Forward Sterling Silver & Leather Travelling Inkwell Desktop For Sale
This is for aVictorian travelling inkwell with a sterling silver top. The lid has an armorial crest engraved into it that depicts a rampant lion and the word 'Forward' in a banner above. The silver has a stylish engine turned pattern and itis hallmarkedwithEnglish sterling silver marks that date it to London 1851 along with a makers mark FD for Frances Douglas. The base is covered in leather and the lid has an integral stopper that seals the glass bottle inside. Unfortunately the lid has broken away from the base and is no longer attached, so it needs a repair, other than that it is fine, there are no dings or dents in the silver and the leather around the base is allintact with minimal wear . The base measures 40mm (1.5")squareby 35mm (1.3") high.
