ITEM: ITEM: You are offerding on an antique circa 1939 - early 40s inventive
and unique in manufacture and design Sunbeam T - 9 Electric self
popping electric toaster. Beautiful art deco styling, first displayed at the 1939 New York
World's Fair. This model is in the permanent design collection of
several museums.
A stylish and sleek chromed unit with black Bakelite handles and trim. Unique incised
design with a faceted glass jewel that lights up on the front when the
coils heat. Upside down the incising appears as a futuristic"T9".
Controls for Light/Dark, "Keeps Toast Warm" or "Pops Toast Up". A well
defined and executed machine age advanced industrial art deco design,
that was inspired by the 1939 New York World's Fair and the sphere and
pylon symbol specifically. An iconic design in very fine working
condition I had a time getting decent photos of this as it gleams and
shines in every setting but the toaster itself looks fab and is in a very fine near mint state of original conservation. The Sunbeam T-9 Toaster, possibly the most popular model ever made. The
lines etched on the front and back of the toaster are symbolic of the
1939 New York World's Fair. The T-9 was issued in that year and used
this device to tag onto the popularity of the event. The Sunbeam T-9 was engineered by Ludvik Koci of the Chicago Flexible
Shaft Corporation (the corporate parent of Sunbeam). The exterior
design was patented by George Scharfenberg, a noted designer and Sunbeam
employee. The semi-circle shape of
the T-9's exterior is also an essential component of the mechanical
design. Works perfectly and the original cord also looks good and usable but you might want that to be checked as it is the original c. 1939 cloth cord
Measures 8" high by about 10" across from black bakelite handle to handle
--These cool old chromium appliances look great in current modern aesthetic kitchens as seen in this photo below --
CONDITION: Very fine working condition -- clean and undamaged very little signs of usage
100% guaranteed vintage and original as always from GrapefruitMoonGallery.
