This is for afabulous old arts & crafts copper box from around 1890=1900. It has been embossed on the lid with a long eared owl perched on a long craggy branch. It hasa makers mark just below the bird whichi haven't been able to identify,the box came out of a house in Boston in the States, so i think it may ba an American maker...the mark isAB-SMand alongside that there isaU in a shield. It is a well made box that has a fine hand beaten finish on all four sides and on the background of the lid. It has been used as a cigar box as it has been lined in wood with a German cigar manufacturers advertisement for Leopold Engelhardt & Biermann ofBremen. The boxdisplays beautifully it has a lovely rich unpolished patinaand is invery good condition, there is very little to fault it on, a couple of little dings anda little splitatthe top of one corner on the side, but really for it s age it has survived well. It measures a good large size at 235mm (9") by 158mm (6") by 77mm (3") deep.
