This isagreat Arts and Craftssolid silver and enamelbrooch made by the Birmingham maker William J Holmes. It has astriking design with a centralsection of deep shades of purple and blue like a blackberry colour in original fine condition. The top roundel and bottom three enamel roundels are in a turquoise blue colour. No repairs to theenamel, some surface wear commensurate with age. There is a speck missing of clear surface covering to the enamel on the bottom left roundel but barely noticeable.On the back it has the makers mark WJ Hand is fully hallmarked for silver, Birmingham with the date letterk for 1909.It has the usualc clasp and pin fittings. The broochmeasures3.0cms / 1.2ins across and2.8 cms /1.1 ins deep.Please note this is an original broochis not a copy.When we first saw this brooch we thought it was a James Fenton who does this wonderful design. The enamelling is just as beautiful as Fenton pieces. A very attractive piece of antique jewellery.
