In the fifties, the trend towards modern spurred a lot of
creativity and interpretation as to what \'modern\' really was.
For some it was minimalist design. For others they
took a different approach and felt the future was about
vivid colors, squiggly lines and abstraction. This is a great example of this modern abstraction
in lamp design. Now it is referred to as Atomic or Googie
styling, but it was quite normal and not outrageous
at the time - it was simply \'modern\' design! Here a pink plaster base is adorned, via the drip
method, applying dark squiggle lines to the surface.
A gold atomic spire is set upon the pink base and looks
somewhat like a space age fleur de lis!The contrasts are wonderful and this lamp is a joy
to look at. What\'s more, the three way socket
provides ample illumination and can be used
as a night light, accent light and full reading light!Minor wear to the pink enamel near the bottom
and minor tarnish to the brass finishes.
Works perfectly. A ravishing addition to your Hong Kong penthouse, London
summer home or Palm Springs Atomic Modern dwelling!
