Offered without reserve and a very low starting price is an Edwardian hand mirror of beveled glass contained in a very attractive, hallmarked English sterling silver and blue enameled guilloche setting.
Overall length is approximately 10 ¼ ins at the longest point, and width just under 4 ¼ ins at the widest. The weight of the piece is 209 grams (7 3/8 ozs)
The silver frame is hallmarked for 1934, Birmingham, England. The makers mark is difficult to read, but appears to be J.C.V. - which would make this the mark of John Collard Vickery, one of the better known retailers of fine silver goods. However, as Vickery died in 1930, I am not completely sure. The blue enameled guilloche work is fine and in good condition except for some missing enamel at the join of handle and mirror; two small chips in the enamel on the mirror backing; and a further small chip on the handle. Please see the photos – I have tried to pick these out. The hallmarks are clear and distinct. The mirror is un-chipped and in good condition.
Please see the photos, which form a part of the description.
This is a complete and attractive piece from a good Birmingham maker in good condition.
Good luck if you decide to offer.
