Welcome! Today we are offering an authentic civil war era period wooden canteen with leather strap. Canteen measures about 12-1/2\" tall, 11-1/2\" across and 5-1/4\" deep. It has the original leather strap which is almost wore through in one area near the middle, but is still holding together. There is an old paper tag from a museum that is mostly worn off that says Civil War Relic, donated... unfortunately the rest of the tag is worn off. Can make out a faint red star and some red painted? design on one side of the canteen, and there is some old burlap covering on the other side. Metal or iron bands enclose the barrel type design, leather strap is attached with hand forged iron hardware. Footed on the bottom so it can stand, cork or cap is missing. Wood has contracted with age and is a little loose in a couple areas around the edge, but still holds together well, nothing major. Weighs 4-1/2 pounds.
