Today I am list a 1864 US Ames Model 1862 Naval Cutlass Sword. This is in extremely good shape for nearly 150 years old with three or four small dent or dings on the handguard. The handle is a wire wrapped leather that is in great shape with no peeling at all andthe blade is really nice as well with only a couple minor imperfections on it. The overall length is 32 inches long with the blade being 26 inches. The fuller is 3/4\" wide and 19\"\'s long. The scabbard is in real nice shape and is all intact. Theere are 43 small rivets that run up the one side with a large one at top for the frog to attach. The overall length is 27\"\'s to the top and the weight is 2 lbs 6 oxs total. Overall this is a stunning piece of history with 1863m stamped on the blade and on the scabbard it is marked {USNY Boston 1864}.With well over 25,000 produced the US Navys Model M1860 was by far the most famous US Navy Cutlass ever made and was used for well over 80 Years, produced by the Ames Manufacturing Company, As always I am not an expert on swords and knives so if I have missed something please feel free to ask and I will reply as soon as possiable.
