Signed with cursive initials E P M on the lid, further decorated with black line and corner painted decoration..

A fine pine wood dome top box or trunk.

Bears its original red color wash or paint.

Interior is lined with hand painted wallpapers.

Irregular shape hand made nails.

Hinges appear original, the screws most likely old replacements.

A beautiful Civil War era box.

From the internet: Born on 10 Jan 1832 to William Mudgett and Harmal Hall. . Edward Payson married Harriet Clease and had a child. He passed away on 10 Apr 1894 in Cambridge, Vermont, USA.
