Abraham Lincoln 1861 Print Lincoln Cabinet And Military Heroes:
This listing is for a vintage 1861 lithographic print of President Abraham Lincoln, members of his cabinet, and military heroes from the very early days of the American Civil War. Titled "LOYAL AMERICANS" this is one of the earliest prints issued upon the start of the war. Artist was A.K. Kipps, with lithography done by G.D. Andrews on "Washington Street". Published in Boston by B.B. Russell. The print depicts President Lincoln in the center, Vice President Hannibal Hamlin at the "1:00 position" on the outside edge of the oval. It includes every member of Lincoln's cabinet, including his main rival for the Presidency, Sec. of State William H. Seward. At the "12:00" position is Army General-In-Chief Winfield Scott. At the "6:00" position is General Robert Anderson, commander of Ft. Sumter when it fell to the rebel forces in April 1861. To his right is Lincoln's young friend, Col. Elmer Ellwsorth, who was the first Union officer killed in the war. Although no date is given on the print, it's dateable in other ways. That Simon Cameron is shown as Lincoln's Secretary of War tells us that this dates to 1861. Cameron was a political hack who was corrupt and highly ineffective as Secretary of War. Lincoln replaced him soon after the war began with Edwin M. Stanton who did a brilliant job guiding the armies. Showing Winfield Scott as General-In-Chief dates this prior to November 1, 1861 when he resigned due to age, infirmity, and political machinations by his successor George B. McClellan. This lithographic print is on cardboard stock. It measures 12" tall by 9.75" wide. Condition: There is some light staining at the bottom right of the print, but does not affect the image. There are some vertical dust shadow type markings on the print, but they do not affect the image of the print. It may have been previously bound in a book or volume of other prints, but I'm unsure of that. offerding on this great piece from the opening of the U.S. Civil War opens at only $9.99. I do have a moderate reserve price established. Shipping cost would be approximately $7.50 because of its size. It will of course be shipped flat. offer with confidence! I'm one of the very earliest members of (July 1997) and have perfect response ratings. Thanks for looking!
