Abraham Lincoln Hand-carved Walnut Bed:
The Lincoln Bed - Historical Antique Walnut Bed
Own a Part of America's History
Cherished Family Heirloom
Abraham Lincoln, one of our greatest presidents, campaigned heavily in 1858 for the senate seat held by Stephen Douglas. The two agreed to meet for a series of seven debates in seventy days, in seven different Illinois cities. These debates were widely covered by the national media and focused on the slavery issues of the day.
This beautiful, hand carved walnut bed, came from the hotel where Lincoln stayed during this campaign. The current owners who have had the bed for fifty years, purchased it from the estate that had obtained it from the hotel back at the turn of the century. Despite the fact this bed is well over 160 years old, it is in remarkably excellent shape.
The bed measures 86" tall, 61" wide, and 80 inches long. The bed consists of the headboard, 3 side rails, footboard, and four slat boards. The bed is constructed of solid walnut with ornately hand carved designs. While a queen size mattress will fit, due to the fact this bed was built before standard bed sizes were established, a person would be best to have a custom mattress built to fit this bed exactly.
You now can have your very own Lincoln Bedroom in your own home, or would make an excellent addition to any Lincoln themed Bed and Breakfast or museum.
