Adolf Gustav Thamm (1859-1925), German Antique Oil/Board Painting, N/R:
$39.99

Up forsale today is antique oil on fiberboard (or at least it appears to befiberboard) painting that we’d like to attribute to listed and famous Germanartist Adolf Gustav Thamm (1859-1925). I am selling this on behalf of my friendwho said he acquiredthe paintinghimself from High-End NYC Manhattan estate sale about10 years ago. The painting measures 9.75 x 13.25 inches, and is being soldunframed. It is signed with initials AT in the bottom right corner. There issome mild surface dirt and we believe that gentle clean will bring the colorsout.

Originallypainting was housed in old antique frame which had bad burn marks on top (as ifit was rescued from the fire at some point of its existence) that we decided toget rid of. As soon as we have removed the backing carton board we discoveredthat verso had some text written in German (please take a look at the images).I do not speak German but when asked around I was told that inscription can betranslated somethingas: “Upon Enz” - To my beloved brother Christian Buhl from Arno Troltschlichgifted on May 9th, 1948\". I hadgoogled “Enz” word and found out it is ariver in Germany.

At themoment of purchasing this painting my friend knew the artist but had forgottenlately and he just kept telling me it was supposed to be famous German painter. The verso text did not help us to identify the name of the artist so I have takenthe images of the painting to European art forum and immediately was told that itvery much reminded the works by Adolf Thamm. Couple of readers suggested itwas a good copy after Thamm but nobody could have come up with solid proof oneway (original) or another (after/copy). That is why we are only attributingthis painting to Adolf Thamm. This painting comes with NO PROVENANCE so pleasekeep this in mind and offer accordingly and make your own research PRIOR offerding. We will only accept returns for this sale if you find the painting wasgrossly misrepresented.

Pleasegoogle name Adolf Thamm and images of his paintings, you will see that ourpainting does have striking resemblance with his works. Coincidence or not butinitials also match his name A(dolf) T(hamm). His famous works are usually doneon canvas and bear a full signature, however this could be a sketch or prepwork for bigger painting -take a look at his famous “Old Nuremberg”. Click this link to see that painting: style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\">This artist sells for thousands of dollars and images of hispaintings are often printed on postcards in Germany for tourism purposes.

Once again,I’d like to state that since we have no provenance documents for this paintingwe can only attribute it to Adolf Thamm so please keep this in mind whenofferding. Thank you for stopping by and should you have any questions or requiremore photos, please us know.

Please take a look at other paintings I am listing this weekend.
