Photographer: Frank Mason Good, British Title: Sinai – Mount Serbal Date: 1860s Medium: Albumen Print on plain mount Size of Image: 6 x 8 inches Size of Mount: 10 5/8 x 11 ¼ inches Condition: Rich tonal image, sharp and clean, some light soiling to mount, penciled title on recto in period hand, notation in pencil on verso in contemporary hand. Other: Frank Mason Good (1839-1928), British photographer, made four separate visits to the Middle East in the 1860s and 1870s after first serving as Francis Frith’s assistant in Egypt in 1857. He was admitted into the Photographic Society of Great Britain in 1864. His works can be found in most of the major collections of the world. In the 1870s he published, The Holy Land; Egypt, The Nile, Nubia; and Spain. He also photographed extensively in Europe. This image is a variation on the view made by Francis Frith in 1857 titled “Mount Serbal, from the Wadee Feyran,” while Good served as his assistant. Send questions.
