1880s Allegheny Spring Water Bottle from Montgomery County, Virginia. Light aqua 1/2 gallon bottle embossed with a figure of a young girl holding a goblet in her right hand and a hoop in her left hand. Embossing on the front reads: ALLEGHENY WATER ~ TRADE MARK ~ THE GREATEST DYSPEPSIA WATER EVER DISCOVERED. On the back of the bottle you can make out the faint images of the words: DIRECTION ~ BEGIN TAKING GLASS FULL THREE TIMES PER DAY ONE HOUR BEFORE MEALS. Photo #5 shows the back side but it is hard to read in the photo.
This bottle is in absolutely mint condition with lots of air bubbles. Shipping with insurance is $14.50.
According to the website www.newriverva.com Allegheny Springs was located near Shawsville in Montgomery County, VA along the south fork of the Roanoke River, 3 1/2 miles south of Allegheny Depot. Allegheny Spring Hotel was built there in 1853 and continued operations until it was destroyed by fire in 1904. This fine bottle would make a great addition to anyone's collection.
