Amazing Creek/cherokee Dan Townsend Carved Heron Necklace For Sale
An amazing detailed heron shell carving necklace by Creek/Cherokee Indian artisan Dan Townsend, working for nearly 25 years following in his ancestors footsteps, carving almost exclusively in shell, chosen among a select number of Native American artists to exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. He also served as artist in residence at the Chicago Art Institute. This heron shell carving necklace of his is just amazing and very detailed. It depicts a heron standing amidst cattails, all his feathers delineated, on a large oval shell pendant that measures 3 3/4" X 2 1/8", with white and brown beads, as well as coiled brass beads, all strung on a black cord tied at the top. Signed with his initials "DT" on the reverse. The cord and bead strand has a straight measurement of 27", drop length is 17". Total weight is 76 grams. An amazing piece of art to wear as a necklace or simply to hang on your wall! Excellent new condition, purchased from Dan Townsend himself at an IACA show in approximately 1985.
