Mesosaurus Brasiliensis Dinosaur

This is the finest example of a Mesosaurus Brasiliensis thatyou will EVER see for sale, and it takes pride of place in my privatecollection. There are several specimensin museums that are not half the quality of this one. There is another, really nice high quality specimenin a Japanese museum that might beslightly better than this one, just due to thefact that the quality is as good but it\'s a little larger, although......it’sunder lock and keyand not for sale!
I have decided to sell in order to raise funds to buy a Bentley Continental or similar machine.
If you areinterested in this amazing dinosaur, then I suggest you do your own researchto get an idea ofwhat\'s out there in the market place, both for sale and in museums. This will give you a good referenceof just how excellent thisparticular piece really is, in terms of both quality and rarity.

For the manyyears that I have been interested in fossils, I have only seen twoFULLYINTACT Mesosaurus Brasiliensis for sale, one was £22,000 and the otherwas £19,000 and neither came even close to the quality of this piece. Both looked like they had been run over witha steam roller, or that they were some kind of prehistoric road kill. On the rare occasionthat an fully intactMesosaurus Brasiliensisdoes come up for sale, it\'s outrageously expensiveand looks like it has been run over by Fred Flintstone, on the way to work at Slate Rock and Gravel Company.

Not this one, thisfossil is actually 3D and is raised above its matrix.Evenwhen you look at this pieceunder a scope, you can only see a few very minor prep markings on thesurrounding matrix. I would say 95% ofthis specimen has no markings around it all, not even under a scope, which isvery rare.It looks almost like someonejust turned a corner and there it was, just laying out there in its presentcondition waiting to be picked up.

I acquired this piece from a well known dealer in the USA some years ago, he owned and fettered it for 9 years and he in turn acquired it from another well known dealer in the USA.The original seller was known for having one of the very best private collections in the world.

For those of you not familiar with this particular species,I will give you a little background on it. This dinosaur is around 250 million years old and is a very significant findin the fossil records, due to its importance in proving the continental drift theory. This is because itsremains are found in both Southern Africa and South America and since thisreptile did not have the means to swim across the Atlantic Ocean, it\'s therefore hypothesised that the only way this reptile could have beendistributed on two different continents, was that thecontinents wereonce joined. This particular species wasthe initial proof that was needed to support such a theory.

The Mesosaurus grew in length to around 3 feet, give ortake a few inches. It is believed that it spent mostof its time in the water and although it has arms and legs, the bones are notdesigned in a way to support ambulation (walking on land for the layman). If this animal did come onto land as somescientists suspect, it is believed that it pulled itself up onto land muchlike a sea turtle would do.

This specimen is 100% natural with absolutely ZERO repairsor restoration. The matrix piece is 15inches long but the specimen itself is 20.50 inches in length. The matrix piece has NOT been broken but itdoes appear that perhaps a thin line of fill was used on the back of the matrixpiece for future stabilisation.Theremost likely was a crack on the matrix on the backside of the piece and theyfilled it in for safety reasons.Thecrack does not run through to the front or sides, so was most likely filled toprevent any future cracking. If bouncedaround, a fissure could always get worse if not filled in and stabilised. You should be able to see this area from thepicture of the backside, but it is very minimal and is not a big deal at all.I just wanted to mention because it is betterto explain everything than to simply leave details out.

Make me an offer........you neverknow!

Happy offerding!
