The face of the pin has a gold border and gold lettering with white enamel background and enamel Red Cross. The pin is legible and the enamel is nicely preserved with some soiling or discoloration to the white enamel (lower left corner). There is a pin back device on the reverse. The pin measures .25 by .625 inches. This pin was awarded for mastering advanced First Aid according to a
1943 National Geographics Magazine Article on the American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross provided a myriad of Services for the War Effort. They were known for providing nursing services and counseling services. They also provided transportation drivers, oversaw recreation facilities and refreshments, and ran different Red Cross Stations, Clubs, and Hotels. The ARC provided counseling services, arranged for emergency leaves, served as a contact between the home front and the GIs on the battle lines and even operated Club Mobile Trucks with refreshments within the sounds of the front lines. Sometimes they just brought a little touch of home to the GI.
