An Early 19th C. Forge-welded Persian/georgian Qama Or Kindjal Short Sword For Sale
Sword
For sale, with , is a fine early forge-welded Persian or Georgian Qama or Kindjal. Item dates probably to the early 1800's, possibly earlier, and is an excellent example of old world swordmaking. This is a short sword, but still measures an impressive 19 inches (48.2 cm) long, with a blade measuring about 14-1/2 inches (36.8 cm). Blade has four fullers ground into each side, with the outer ones being thinner than the two central ones. Forge-welding patterns (similar to Wootz or Damascus steel) are readily discernible, especially along ground fullers; the pattern seems to undulate like a sine wave, suggesting that the blade was forged from a core of twisted steel bars or rods. Sword maker's mark (probably Arabic) is proudly stamped on either side of blade and finished with either a gold inlay or niello. Hilt is made from a single piece of bone, or most likely walrus, commonly used at the time, and finished with brass rosettes.Note crack and missing rosette on hilt. Blade has some very minor rust spots. Altogether a fine example of this type of blade.Shipping is dependent upon location. Item will weigh about 2 pounds packed, and will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail unless a different shipping method is preferred.
