An Antique Victorian Brass Medieval Gothic Religious Reliquary Style Casket:
Here is a very attractive antique Victorian brass gothic reliquary style casket depicting medieval style scenes on all sides and the lid.
The scenes seem to depict various scenes from medieval life and religious scenes, with a figures with swords, a queen, a mounted knight facing backwards and possibly some pilgrims or saints.
The back and front sides have similar scenes, and the two ends also have scenes similar to each other.
The box is unlined and does not have a tab fastener or lock.
This box is very heavy, it is made from brass. There are various different versions of these caskets, and this one is one of the more nicely detailed ones, with good definition to the figures.
I cannot see any makers mark on this one, but there is a number "30"impressed inside near one hinge. The underside of the base has quite a lot of old solder visable around the edges, but is sound and strong. The inside of the box has long streaks of tarnish on the front and back panels.
Condition is very good generally otherwise.
The lid closes securely and the hinges are sound.
The box measures 5.9 inches (15.2 cm) long, 2.75 inches (7.1 cm) high and 3.6 inches (9.2 cm) wide.
The box weighs a hefty 1150 grams before any packaging - so please note the postage cost - especially for overseas deliveries.
PLEASE NOTE: I do not take offers for items unless a “Best Offer” button is included on the listings, or include free postage, and I am afraid that I will not reply to such requests.
A NOTE REGARDING POSTAGE: I endeavour to send all items quickly, safely and most cost effectively. I do not make profit from postage charges. All mail companies/couriers now charge pretty high prices for their services, and they increase each year. Here are some additional points for buyers:
FOR UK BUYERS: Postage is calculated by weight and size of the packed item. Royal Mail have put up their prices for most parcels dramatically (from April 2013). To offer buyers the best deal, I will now be using Hermes couriers for many UK deliveries. Their prices are at least £2 less than for using Royal Mail in most cases – BUT please bear in mind that, although posted as soon as possible after payment, the Hermes deliveries can take 3 – 5 days. PLEASE do bear in mind, when leaving rated response, that I have no control over the speed of delivery, only over getting your item into the Hermes system as soon as possible (usually next day after payment).
FOR OVERSEAS BUYERS: Please read the notes below regarding how we calculate shipping prices. Shipping costs to European destinations will be slightly less than the worldwide shipping price quoted. I will refund any significant difference in postage cost, or you can message me for an exact shipping price to your European destination if you prefer.
We often photograph our items in an appropriate setting to give more of an idea of how they might look when displayed. The actual item for sale will be the main item in the photograph and, unless otherwise stated, the sale is for the item described only (i.e. not inclusive of any other items used in the pictures).
PAYMENT: Paypal for overseas buyers please. UK buyers also may use a cheque drawn on a UK bank or send a postal order. Please send payment within seven days of sale or listing end, or if you are likely to be away etc. please contact me to let me know. PLEASE NOTE: Due to an increase in unpaid items, an unpaid item case will be opened if payment is not received, or contact made, within a maximum of two weeks from date of purchase.
POSTAGE: Our postage charges are estimated to the best of our ability before the item is packed for shipping, based on actual Royal Mail price charts. Therefore, if the actual shipping charge should prove to be significantly less, we will refund the difference in postage back to you via Paypal. We always use Signed For or Insured services (unless you choose otherwise on smaller value items). Although these do cost a little more, they offer better service and protection for items, so are worth the extra cost in case of any problems.
I will combine postage for multiple items, provided they can be safely packed together.
The Worldwide postage quoted applies to most destinations, however, European countries are often cheaper, so please ask for the postage cost to your European destination if you want further clarification.
NON UK buyers: In theory we are happy to ship most items overseas, but those which are large and/or heavy can be very expensive via UK shipping channels. If you wish to offer from overseas and do not see a postage price for your destination in the listing, please contact us and we will send a shipping estimate. Items are priced for postage by Volumetric Weight: height x width x length.
Please also note that your local customs office may levy an import duty, which you will need to pay to receive your item.
CONDITION: We try to describe any specific flaws accurately, but as all the items we sell are antique or vintage, they will show some signs of wear and tear.
DESCRIPTION: We try to describe all items accurately and measurements as closely as possible. If you do need more information then please contact us via the “Contact Seller” page and we will reply as quickly as possible.
RETURNS: If you have any problems or concerns once you have received your item, please also contact us and, again, we will respond as quickly as we can.
We want all buyers to be happy with their items and comply with the distance selling regulations. Equally, if the item is not as described, or arrives damaged, please contact us.
In the (fortunately) rare event that an item arrives damaged: With claims for damaged items, the carrier will want to see evidence of damage, so please keep all packaging and the item itself. Please take photographs of these if at all possible, as these will aid a claim.
However, we are a small business and returns do cost us money. If you request to return an item for other than the reasons above, we may ask you to pay the return postage charges.
We try to use recycled but quality packaging wherever possible, in order to help reduce waste and to keep costs to you down.
Thank you for your interest in our items!
