An Elegant Georgian Sterling Coffee Urn, Hester Bateman, London 1786 For Sale
rare George III sterling coffee urn in almost pristine condition by
Hester Bateman, London 1786. Here is a very pretty coffee urn
incorporating some of her signature features; fine beaded borders,
fine engraving, vase-shaped form, ivory fittings. The bead-work
is abundant, adorning every edge or rim, even around and along the
tap. In addition it has 4 very attractive leaf-decorated feet. The
front has a finely engraved cartouche for a crest or monogram, which
was never added. It does not appear to have been used at all
though my definition of 'pristine' was just a bit exaggerated. There
are, on close inspection, a couple of pin-prick dings. The shaped
ivory tap handle has a couple of fine ageing cracks above the
retaining pins. The hallmarks are large and very clear, under the
foot and along the rim of the lid. Dimensions: 15.5” tall.
Weight: 40 Troy oz.
