Ancient Chinese Wei Dynasty Pottery Buddha Shrine - 439 Ad:
A very rare and impressive terracotta Shrine of Buddha, the enlightened one, dating to China's Wei Dynasty (439 - 534 A.D.).
A powerful piece, carved as opposed to molded, with excellent detail and pigment preservation. This shrine would have been placed in an ancient Buddhist temple, perhaps offered as a gift.
Height of Shrine: 12 1/2inches.
Condition: Very good.Unrestored.
This piece is from a large number of mostly Chinese antiques, purchased from a shop clearance in the south of England. These items were all exhibited at London department store Fortnum & Mason, approximately 15 years ago. Scans of the exhibition flyer, obtained from the previous owner, can be supplied to the buyer upon request.
