You are offerding on a 100% authentic, translated, and important Ancient Egyptian Funerary Cone. This is from my personal collection but I have decided to narrow my focus to Egyptian Bronze so am selling a few pieces to make way for new additions. The cone has been translated as follows:"Revered before Osiris; The Hereditary Prince and Royal Scribe Huy, who comes from Het-hr-ib, True of Voice."The text is read from top to bottom, left to right, columns. (note: the first photo is oriented correctly, others are tilted to offer different perspectives of surface depth and contrast)
  • First Column: Revered before
  • Second Column: Osiris, (The) Hereditary Prince (and) Royal Scribe Huy
  • Third Column: (who) comes from Het-hr-ib (Athribis) [nb. the second reed leaf in the word 'comes' is damaged/lost. Het-hr-ib, known as 'Athribis' today, is located in the 10th nome of Lower Egypt, just north and east of Memphis.]
  • Fourth Column: Justified/True (of) Voice [ie. an honorable person]
This funerary cone is by far the most well preserved of all I have seen from this tomb. A series of cones once were originally placed in one or two rows above the tombs entrance. They represented rafters or ceiling beams/logs that held up the roof of a dwelling. Huy was a very high official in the court of Amon-hotep III (18th dynasty, circa 1350 BC). His given and full name was Amon-hotep, son of Hapu. He familiar name was 'Huy.' He led a stellar life filled with honors and notability. His titles were many. He is known as Royal Architect, Overseer of Works, Royal Scribe, Steward to pharaohs daughter. He was granted special permission to have a mortuary temple built in the vicinity of those of pharaohs and it was granted a perpetual endowment of servants and offerings for his Ka. Huy was remembered a thousand years after his death, and well into the Ptolemaic Period, as a Sage his accomplishments (Colossi of Menmon was built under Huy's direction)and for his writings. The Funerary cone is comprised of Terracotta and still carries trace amounts of light and Kingdom, Dynasty 18–20, 1550–1070 B.CMeasures approx 4.25" long and 2.5" across the face and includes themuseumquality stand.Provenance: Artemis GallerySee the Musume of Fine Arts Boston, item #RES.72.313, for another Huy cone incomparablypoor condition.Shipping is $20 via USPS to the 50 states -No Shipping to an Un-Confirmed Address -Yes, I ship overseas.
