GREEK WORLDSuperb Corinthian Pyxis

Sizeable, earthenware Pyxis; traces of light surface wash with applied decoration in red, consisting of, from top-to-bottom-motif of rays to shoulder, suceeded by a pair of thick bands flanking either side of dotted band, wide exposed band, similar twin bands and exposed groundline; red wash to either handle and rim. The lid, with incised and applied decoration consisting of a frieze of land animals and birds; stars and striations in the field; motif of dots to rim.

Provenance: Austrian private collection formed 1950s-early 1980s.
