Anitque Circa 1700's Dutch Onion Ships' Bottle ~ Open Pontil Base:
Here's a very old bottle that is in remarkable condition for its age. This bottle dates from the 1700's, and these were used on ships. The extra wide base prevented the bottle from easily tipping over during the rocking motion of a voyage at sea. Bottle is light olive green and is 7 5/8" tall. The diameter at the widest point is 5 7/8" wide. Bottle has an open pontiled base and a crudely applied band or string lip. This type of bottle contained various typed of liquor such as; rum, ale, gin, etc... Glass is fairly clean, has a few light scratches. The band below the mouth has a small nick, otherwise no chips, cracks or dings.
