Antique Mid- 1800's Painted New England Corbels :
This is one pair of three that we have. For now, we are listing two pair, so take a look at our other listings. We stripped the third pair, leaving a white-washed appearance, and we have not decided whether to sell them. These large corbels are hand cut from a single piece of wood. They are 20 1/2" tall, almost 4" thick (slight variations) and 10 1/2" deep. Please keep in mind that it is likely lead paint. Some paint comes loose just handling them, keep away from children. If you are interested in a stable finish, it will require work. They were found in New York near the Connecticut and Mass. borders. The seller stated that birds had begun nesting in the circular openings, so (long ago) a square piece of tin was nailed over each opening and it was then re-painted to appear solid.
