Antique 1735 Meissen Porcelain Korean Lion Kakiemon Knife & Fork Set Porzellan :
$3749.00

For sale is a real treat - a rare knife and fork set made by Meissen in about 1735. The handles are nicely shaped in the pistol grip style and are modeled with a relief pattern to both ends but the best part is the hand painted Kakiemon design called the Korean Lion aka Koreanischer Löwe aka Ch\'i-lin pattern. This cutlery / flatware is likely from the royal Saxon court since they order a couple of hundred of these handles for their use and with the gilded bronze hardware this would have been the best of the best. It is nice to have a proper set and for both to have their original mounts and in perfect condition (except for some wear to the gilding) is almost unheard of these days. The fork is 7.25 inches long of which 2.75 inches is the length of the visible porcelain handle. The knife is 8.375 inches long of which 2.75 inches is the visible porcelain handle. The porcelain is not marked or shall we say visibly marked since it would be hidden by the ferrule which is normal but it is definitely made by Meissen during this period.
