Rare SETH THOMAS PILLAR AND SCROLL clock with FIVE-WHEELED TRAIN MOVEMENT (TYPE 1.511) SPECIFIED IN "ELI TERRY'S 1823 PATENT",
BUT WITH NO REFERENCE ON LABEL TO PATENT. This label puts the build date of this clocksometime between1822 to 1826. After which "Patented" was added to labels
In mahogany case in old refinish with exact reproduction hollow machined brass bodyfinials. Old some what rustyreplacement tin pulley dust covers. Clock hasfull columns and bracket feet, original tablet with painting of country estate,some whatflaked off, original painted wooden dial. Interior with original wooden 30-hour works, brass pendulum, weights and Door and Windkeys, original printed paper label reading in part “Clocks/Made and Sold by/Seth Thomas,/Plymouth, Conn…”, 31.5 x 17.5 x 4.5”. Minor veneer chip on bottom front, Repaired upper L H scroll, shows where cracked in pic. and dial glass broken in upper RH corner, crack in lower glass upper LH corner both with original putty, else Fine, currently in running order. but sure will have to adjust after shipping.
Included is a replacement top and bottomglassesBoth old wavy glass taken fromoriginal door from anEli Terry pillar and scroll shelf clock.The reverse painted tablet is not signed, buthas a number on the back, maybe an inventory number. Gold Leaf good looking glass; Could bereproduction, and maybe not, There is a small bit offlaking. Both replacement glasses are valuable
