Offered for your consideration is an antique circa 1885 Victorian cast iron and solid mahogany book holder. Stand was used to hold a large book, dictionary, family Bible or sheet music.
The stand features a telescoping iron frame, fullyadjustable oak book rests and four legs ending in wood casters, which roll freely. The iron work is graceful as is the curve in the legs. The metal work is artistic and fully functionalincluding the springs that hold the top platforms in position. The stand\'s wooden arms have locks to hold the volume secure. The wooden platform is adjustable in its angles and tilt; can be adjusted to be wider for larger books and tilts forward to flat. The leg assemblyfolds up for travel or storage.
In excellent condition with no issues whatsoever. All original. The mahogany panels are beautiful. The adjusters and locking screws are all there and work properly. Embossed on cast iron: R.M. LAMBIE NEW YORK PAT AUG 21 83, 11 85, 4 86. Adjustable from 31\" to 44\" inches tall x 21\" wide at top when fully opened. Base measures 18\" x 18\".
