Victorian Rose Gold Filled Bangle Bracelet by Foster & Bailey
This wonderful Victorian rose gold filled engraved bangle bracelet by Foster & Bailey of Providence Rhode Island. The entire top of this bracelet is heavily engraved with flourishes, surrounding forget-me-nots, a lovely sentimental theme, popular during the period. The background of the leaves and flowers is striated, leaving no surface without decoration. The back of the bracelet is polished & smooth. The "cross section" silhouette of the bracelet is in the popular oval construction, its edges rounded and smooth, making it extremely comfortable to wear. A thumb pressure clasp keeps the bracelet securely fastened when worn.
Foster & Bailey bracelets are highly sought after for their excellence in quality, durability and workmanship, rivaling that of Bates & Bacon in quality. Their exquisite engraving is considered second to none.
Measurements: The bracelet is 3/8" wide, opens very wide and has an interior
circumference of 7". It is 2 5/8" wide across the widest
Condition: In very, very good antique condition with the gold fill bright & gleaming. No verdigris or overt damage to note. There is a bit of softening to the gold fill on the underside of the bracelet...not a distraction, but mentioned for accuracy. There are a couple of tiny dings on the underside, only apparent if you look closely for them. The hinge has a tiny bit of rattle and is a bit stiff, not a deterrent. The bracelet snaps closed smartly and wears securely and comfortably. Tiny fine scratches attest to the gentlest of wear.
Hallmarks: F&B CO. PAT. for the Foster & Bailey Co of Providence, Rhode Island from 1878 to 1898. The company opened its doors in 1873 as White & Foster, changed to Foster & Bailey in 1878. In 1898, the company changed their name once again to Theodore Foster & Bro. Co. and were in existence until approximately 1951.
