We are having an inventory reduction sale, and will be selling a significant number of our finest watches, most all with extremely modest (e.g. even less than gold value) or s. Gold is trading at near time highs, and some people may have a special interest in the solid gold pocket watches we have for sale, as well as silver, antique clocks, and other timepieces.Presented here for your consideration is an STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS & HIGH QUALITY LARGE SWISS EARLY ANTIQUE SOLID 18K GOLD pocket watch made by A. (Auguste) GrosClaude (his signature is hard to read, but this is absiolutely genuine, and we are as certain as anyone could be that the super high-quality signed movement and dial and case are all original to each other. With its tri-color SOLID GOLD DIAL, case, and unusually high quality movement, it is hard to imagine a higher quality dial, case or movement. The Fleur de Lis motif in the center of the solid gold dial is worth paying special attention to -- it's truly gorgeous and we have never for seen it on the actual dial of a pocket watch (yes on some cases, but never a pocket watch dial). Our best estimate of when this pocket watch was made, given its movement and Listed Maker's history, would be circa 1820 to 1840. The movement is signed AG. The pocket watch has an early cylinder escapement movement of very high quality and has 4 Jewels. This type of cylinder escapement movement was invented by Graham and later improved upon by Breguet. This SOLID 18K GOLD Pocket Watch weighs in at almost 2.3 OUNCES!!! It is KWKS or KW KS model, which was standard in that era. A winding and time set key will be provided with this watch. The pocket watch is in a has an 18K Gold Bezel holding glass which appears to be original over the solid 18K Tri-Color Gold Dial and 18K Gold Case, along with the pictured gold cuvette covering the movement. Even the hands and stem and bow are solid gold! As much as anyone who is still alive today, well over 160 years after this pocket watch was made, the case and movement are all original to each other. The bezel over the dial also appears to be solid gold, as do the dial itself and the hands (hour, minute and second) and the stem and bow. There are really no defects in this watch, including the subsidiary seconds dial, which also looks mint and works great. The size of this watch would be considered fairly large, in an 18K solid gold case and measuring about 1 3/4 inches across, excluding the stem and the bow. The markings on the watch, and shown on the inside cover, are consistent with those used in the earlier part of the 1800s in Switzerland and 18K Solid Gold. This watch tested 18K Gold as well. This pocket watch movement is of extraordinary quality, as can be seen in the pictures, for a pocket watch made in the first-half of the 1800s.While this pocket watch keeps reasonably accurate time and is absolutely in excellent running condition, it is not sold with any guarantee as to timekeeping, and if this is important to the new owner, it may require some adjustments after shipping. The pocket watch, though, is in excellent condition inside and out. Note that the solid gold bow is slightly bent, yet this can be repaired is desired by the new owner. 18K Gold is relatively soft, so it is not surprising that it may have lost some of its roundness shape over the years. Please take a look and our other antique clock and pocket watch sales which include items from iffany & Company, Cartier, J E Caldwell, E Howard, Waltham Watch Company, Hampden Pocket Watchees, Elgin Watches, including repeaters, and wall clocks, mantel clocks, and antique grandfather clocks. Please also take a look at the Howard Miller Grandfather Clocks, Howard Miller Wall Clocks, and Howard Miller Mantle Clocks we have for sale on .We always strive for 100% customer satisfaction, and if you have any issues with your purchase, please contact us first and we will attempt to address them reasonably to the best of our ability.
