Antique 18k Solid Gold M I Tobias Pocket Watch, Vacheron Movement For Sale
Antique 18K SOLID GOLD M I Tobias Pocket Watch, Vacheron Movement
We are having an inventory reduction sale, and will be selling a significant number of our finest watches, most all with extremely modest (e.g. even less than gold value) or s. Gold is trading at near time highs, and some people may have a special interest in the solid gold pocket watches we have for sale, as well as silver, antique clocks, and other timepieces.Presented here for your consideration is an amazing LARGE SOLID 18K GOLD M.I. Tobias British Made, signed M I Tobias, Liverpool, with a tri-color SOLID GOLD DIAL which we are about as certain as certain can be has a Swiss movement made by Vacheron & Constantin. It is hard to imagine a higher quality dial, case or movement. M.I. Tobias, which made pocket watches beginning around 1805, was known to use Vacheron Movements in many of their highest-end pocket watches. The movement in this watch , while unsigned, is nearly identical and the same or better quality than many other Vacheron Movements that we have seen, and is of the highest caliber. We are including a photo of another pocket watch with a signed Vacheron & Constantin movement, and one can see the obvious more than similarity between the 2 movements. Our best estimate of when this watch was made, given its movement and looking at Vacheron & Constantin's movement evolution, would be circa 1840. With so many fake M I Tobias pocket watches out there, and some originals of varying quality as well, it is a pleasure to present such a large gorgeous and authentic M I Tobias Pocket Watch in 18K Solid Gold, with a Solid Gold Tri-Color Dial, that is also still in such pristine condition. While it is difficult to catch the beauty of this pocket watch in photos, and all were taken in natural sunlight with no photo booths or other alterations, one can get a sense of how special this pocket watch truly is. Additionally, there are many antique pocket watches made by a related family company named M J Tobias (frequently confusing to many collectors), which were all Swiss Made (as opposed to M I Tobias Watch where case was made in Liverpool, England, and mostly for export to the USA Market). This SOLID 18K GOLD Pocket Watch weighs in at almost 2.6 OUNCES!!! It is KWKS or KW KS model, which was standard in that era. A winding and time set key will be provided with this watch. The pocket watch is in a has an 18K Gold Bezel holding glass which appears to be original over the solid 18K Tri-Color Gold Dial and 18K Gold Case, along with the pictured gold cuvette covering the movement. Even the hands and stem and bow are solid gold! As much as anyone who is still alive today, well over 160 years after this pocket watch was made, the case and movement are all original to each other. The bezel over the dial also appears to be solid gold, as do the dial itself and the hands (hour, minute and second) and the stem and bow. There are really no defects in this watch, including the subsidiary seconds dial, which also looks mint and works great. While the movement is unsigned, based on our extensive experience in pocket watches and movements, and as much as anyone can be certain (recognizing even signatures can be counterfeited), we are certain this movement was indeed made by Vacheron & Constantin and supplied directly to M I Tobias (Vacheron Constantin was known to be a regular supplier to M I Tobias) . We would rarely make such an assertion unless we were as positive this is the fact as any real expert can reasonably be. Compare the photo below (from the signed Vacheron Constantin movement from the Vacheron section of the 2011 Complete Price Guide to Watches by the renown Cooksey Shugart) to the movement below, and that alone should give one some real comfort. The size of this watch would be considered fairly large, in an 18K solid gold case and measuring about 1 3/4 inches across, excluding the stem and the bow. The hallmark on the watch, and shown on the inside back cover, is consistent with those used in the earlier part of the 1800s in England and 18K Solid Gold. This watch tested 18K Gold as well. This pocket watch movement is of extraordinary quality, as can be seen in the pictures, for a pocket watch made in the first-half of the 1800s.While this pocket watch keeps reasonably accurate time and is absolutely in excellent running condition, it is not sold with any guarantee as to timekeeping, and if this is important to the new owner, it may require some adjustments after shipping. The pocket watch, though, is in excellent condition inside and out. Please
