Antique 18th/19th C. Rococo Hand Painted Porcelain Needle Bodkin Case Etui:
Exquisite antique porcelain needle or bodkin case, probably German or French. The style is typical of the rococo period. I am, however, uncertain whether it was made in the 18th century or later in the mid 19th century, during the rococo revival. Unmarked.
Delicately hand painted courting scenes and flower sprays, surrounded by raised gilt scrolls. The pink area is decorated with tiny raised gilt dots.
The hinged cover is mounted in what I believe is gilt silver (not tested). It opens up very easily. Or, in other words, it won't close properly. The hinge nail has a protruding sharp end.
No damage to the porcelain, only slight wear to the gilding and painting.
Length 11.7 cm (4.61") Weight 76 grams
