This lovely Rare Antique Dated 1900 Arts & Crafts Copper English Signed John Pearson Casket / Box with Inward Facing Love Birds / Doves is in fantastic undamaged condition and has a wonderful contrasting decorative lid design and plain sides with applied legs and riveting.
This is not a reproduction and is a genuine vintage piece and it has a lovely aged patina.
John Pearson (fl. 1885 - 1910) was a famous master craftsman of the Newlyn School and Guild of Handicrafts. He worked in copper and his style is described as arts and crafts / art nouveau.
Together with Charles Robert Ashbee, he was a founding member of the Guild of Handicraft at Whitechapel, London in 1888. John Pearson was dismissed from the Guild of Handicraft in 1892 and made his way to Newlyn, Cornwall where he worked in the recently established industrial school.
