This Antique Christening Cup or Mug measuresapproximately 3 1/2 inchesor 89 mm across from the handle to the front rim of the upper body by 2 1/2 inches or 65 mm acrossthe width or diameterof its upper rim anditstands 3 inches or 77 mm tallto thetop of its upper rim.

The cup or mug is made from sterling silver that has been internally gilded or gold plated in a circular shape with straight sides and it stands on a raised circular foot rim, the cup of mug has a D shape handle on the side of its body that has been wonderfully embossed or raised relief and engrave decorated with a farm yard scene of chickens with a rooster, the cup or mug is Not engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below and it has an approximate 8 fluid ounce or 225 ml liquid capacity, the side of the upper body has beenimpressed witha full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows,

HM - Lion Passant- Three Wheat Sheaves - stylized F

HM is the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark of Henry Moreton whose mark is recorded by the Chester assay office as being used from 1899 to 1920, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver, the Three Wheat Sheaves is the mark of the Chester assay office and the stylized letter F isthe date letter for 1906.

Part of the rarity of this cup or mug is in the fact that it has been impressed with a Chester hallmark, the Chester assay office was closed in August 1962 and pieces that bear this mark have become harder to find as they are more desirable to the serious collector.

Thecondition is used and fairly good for its age.

The ChristeningCup or Mug has No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the cup stands straight,the definition and decoration is very crisp, the silver hallmark is still clearly legible although as the cup or mug is a used antique it does have some shallow dents around its body along with one tiny polishing wear hole in the top of the right side chickens tail tail feather and it has some minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would enhance it greatly. Personally I think that this antique christening cup or mug would makea superb addition to any cabinet collection and that it has a delightful look about it considering thatit's almost 110 years old.
