Antique 19C. Distinguished Gentleman Sea Captain O/B Portrait Painting

Description : The gentleman is probably a sea Captain, the painting depicts the distinguished gentleman leaning on a column base in pose. There is a blue landscape behind him and the painting is housed in its original gilt wood frame. Notice when the painting was made the back of the wood was supported with cross stretchers so it will never warp.

Size : 9 3/4" x 7 3/4", framed it is 14 1/2" x 12 1/2".

Age : 19th C.

Condition : I checked the painting and I believe there was a masking varnish used at one time when there were some small repairs made to the surface. I can see that one hand has been repainted, not the best job, but not terrible. Otherwise, there is craquelure and some wear as expected, painting could use a cleaning. The frame with losses to gilding and chips to the surface revealing the gesso prepared surface.
