The Pesky Persian\'sHOUSEHOLD ARTIFACTS

Useda century or two ago, creamy ivory colored Ironstone cranberry jelly, pudding, and/oraspic mold is in great condition for its age and utilitarian usage. Thisis a rare hexagonal mold with a sheaf of wheat motif measures approximately 7 ¼inches long, 5 3/8 inches wide and 3 3/8 inches high. There are several maker’smark stamped into the base but they are not illegible. It weighs 2 pounds.Ironstonewas first made in 1813. It was more durable than porcelain and became popularduring the mid-19th century. Both English and American potteries madeironstone. Much of the English ironstone was exported to the United States.Condition:Crazing to the glaze through-out (from being in hot ovens). Stable cracks, areas of discoloration, chips, pink stain….all the above is consistent with 100+years of age and utilitarian use. As well as the bottom of the mold –a large, long chip but doesn’t affect the mold balanceand two cracks that may be a firing irregularity when the mold wasproduced. But all the above is to be expected and accepted with an antiquekitchen item that was well used. None of the above compromise the stability ofthe piece nor its value.Ihave other Victorian food molds from my collection presently listed on .This one I purchased in 1997 at Antique 265, Salem, MA. This mold will be anasset to your country or traditional kitchen decor (I now have a mid-centurymodern house). The images are to be viewed carefully and carry more weight thanthe verbal description and remembering that antique items have had a long, historical, utilitarian life and show their age. Unless items are described as mint, pleaseexpect age appropriate wear. I\'ve listed 3 other ironstone food molds on .
