A rareScottish VictorianAesthetic Period plated figuralspirit kettle complete with stand and burner, made by J Miller & Son of Edinburgh, and dating to the late 19th century c.1880 - 1900.
The kettle is of globe form with a figural 'tree branch' handle & spout, a hinged lid with ceramic knop, 4 side supports / pivotsfor when placed on the stand, and 3 cabriole feet around a concave base.
Thestand is in the form of a 4 bar fence with twin side supports, the bars & supports in the form of tree branches. The interior has a tree branch cruciform with a circular centre, where the burner sits.
The burner is cylindrical in form, with a screw on cap & a funnel for the wick.
The interior of the lid is marked J.MILLER & SON / P 250 / EDINBURGH.
Condition : Overall Good withlight marking commensurate with age -
The kettle has dimpling / very small &shallow bruises to the body, a little plate loss to the edge of the hinged lid, and some pitting to the plate where the handle, spout, and legs meet the body.
The stand rocks due to uneven feet& one support is out of true, but the kettle sits & pivots fine and as it should - please click on all photos to enlarge.
The stand measures approx 7 1/4" x 6 3/4" at the base, and the total heightwith the kettle is approx 13 1/2" (approx 18.5cm x 17cm, 34cm).
