ANTIQUE 19thC JAPANESE MEIJI (1868-1912) IMARI ARITA PORCELAIN CHARGER PLATE:

Description:

A largeJapanese porcelain plate or charger, dating to the mid Meiji period(1868-1912),finely hand paintedin theImari palette.

The plate is decorated with two main panels depicting an extensive mountenous landscape to one, and birds flying around blossoming trees and hydrangea to the other. The scallopededge of the plate is separatedinto twelve panels decorated with alternating panels with phoenix, foo dogs and flowers all highlighted in gold gilt. The remainder of the space is painted with chrysanthemum motifs, and gold foliate shapes surrounded by an underglaze blue ground.

The underside of the plate is decorated in underglaze blue with geometric and foliate shapes.

Condition:

In good antique condition, without damage or restoration, just some expected wear to the gold gilt and minor fritting to the rim. Please see the images provided which complement this description.
