Antique American Primitive Folk Art 2 Black Cats Kitten Kitty Cat Magdalena Briner Eby Wool Hook Rug 1800s
Frame measures 35 1/4 inches high x 47 1/4 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches deep.
Framed with NON GLARE Glass. This has been professionally framed and preserved properly under the glass. If you prefer the rug to be taken out of the frame and shipped that would be fine too. Just let me know once you win the offer.

RUG site area measures 25 1/2 inches high x 37 1/4 inches wide.
I took this rug to the 19th Annual Rug Hooking week at Sauder Village in Archbold Ohio back in August of 2014 to be inspected by the author of Rug Hooking Traditions with Magadalena Briner Eby. The rug was displayed in the hook rug class and photographed by many of the students and all were so excited to see a Magadalena Hooked Rug in person.
Good condition. Frame has Surface wear. No cracks chips or breaks that I can see.
I purchased this rug at an sale estate sale from a very well to do family from West Bloomfield Michigan. On the back it was tagged with the name Magdalena Briner Eby.
Evelyn indicated that it looked to be that of Magdalena Briner but was not sure because it had a border around the cats and she also stated that this was not typical, yet she noted that she has seen her work done like this in the past and also noted the borders on other rugs in the book that Magdalena had hooked that did have borders.
Evelyn stated it was very much like a Magdalena Briner rug and then suggested we go the hotel where there was a rug hooking class in session so they could see a Magdalena rug in person and I could meet Barb Carroll who could help us identify the rug and age.Evelyn introduced me to Barb Carroll who, after inspecting the cat rug and the wool and textiles, indicated that the rug dates from the 1870\'s to 1885 that of the time of Magdalena rug hooking and in her opinion it was of Magdalena and that the wool and red color was that of the berry used back in the day and asked Evelyn if she had verified so. Evelyn did not verify that the rug was for sure that of Magdalena but yet she did put it in her published book so that was a bit confusing.

Evelyn Lawrence hooked the same rug and put it into her book stated above.
I was told it is definitely from the late 1800\'s and is possibly and most likely that of Magdalena Briner Eby
Since I do not have the actual papers from the estate but the rug when purchased had a tag on the back stating it was a Magdalena but I am not sure if they left the tag on the back of the rug when it was framed or not.
I will only be able to say this is attributed to Magdalena Briny Eby.
NOTE Picture of the cat rug in the book is something Evelyn hooked off of pictures I sent her of my original rug. She broke it down into sections and hooked the rug from that and put it in her published book as the expert on rug hooking and Magdalena Briner Eby\'s works.
