Antique Ansonia 8-day Figural Mantle Clock Open Escapement Runs Great Time:
This antique Ansonia mantle clock measures 16 inches wide, 15 inches tall and is 7 inches in depth.
The case to this clock is spelter, and has the original patina. The ornate scrolling and enchanted man give this clock a majestic, almost stoic look. As one can see, there has been a break to one of the legs of the stool. The break has been crudely repaired at some point in the past. It is a clean break, and the figurine will sit on top with no issues or worries about him falling off. If I were to keep this, I believe I would just leave it alone because once you put the shank portion of the nail through the hole in the binding strap, he isn’t going anywhere and it is soo hard to see, but mentioned for accuracy.
The movements are the original Ansonia 8-day time and strike movement. The escapement is an open one. The clock runs as intended and has been running since purchased a week ago. It loses a little time over a 24-hour period, but the amount of time it loses is getting less and less as I am adjusting the speed of the bob.
The clock runs great, the movement has recently been oiled and is clean. This will strike the appropriate time on the full hour, and a single bell at the half hour. There are no cracks in the porcelain dial. All that is needed with this one is to set it up and enjoy.
