Here'san antique, late 1890's early 1900's, Yerba Mate Bombilla Straw. Measuring 8 1/4" long, this Bombilla is marked on the mouthpiece “18k” and the strainer is marked “Industria Argentina 800” The straw is made of .800 silver, with an 18k gold mouth piece, and 18k gold inlay.
Yerba Mate is an infused caffeinated drink made from the leaves of the Mate Tree. This is the national drink of Argentina and has been a traditional drink for hundreds of years. Typically drank out of a hollowed gourd with a silver or gold straw, known as a Bombilla, this infused natural drink is a source of caffeine and nutrients.
