You are viewing a beautiful Jewelry/Trinket Casket box, by Brainard and Wilson. It is a beautiful, unique art nouveau work of art, depicting a landscape scene with a house, bridge, fence and lake. The box shows different angles of the same scene on 3 of the sides, and one of the sides has flowers. The top of the box is trimmed in art nouveau flourishes and a dogwood flower.These caskets are often very difficult to date, but I was able to locate this exact box in an antique A C Becken catalogue from 1907, who was a wholesaler for B & W Co.It is described as \"Jewel Box, ormolu gold plated\". The page also lists it as being a \"solid metal base , fancy silk lined, .....gold boxes are 24K ormolu gold plated.\" The website where I located this catalogue, MorningGloryAntiques, describes this as a \"very unusual box with a landscape on the sides.\" Over time, some of the ormolu plating has worn, but the beautiful soft patina left behind is a mix of bright and darker golds. The inside silk is in wonderful condition, considering it\'s age. It is all intact and very clean, in a beautiful gold colored silk.
The dimensions of the box are 5\" Long x 4\" Wide x 4\" High. The bottom of the box is signed 174, B&W (Brainard & Wilson). The hinge is in excellent condition and works well. This is a substantial, heavy piece of metal that shows no sign of any damage.
